Applied Behavior Analysis
Behavior analysis helps us to understand:
o How behavior works
o How behavior is affected by the environment
o How learning takes place
The goal is to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are
harmful or affect learning.
ABA therapy programs can help:
o Increase language and communication skills
o Improve attention, focus, social skills, memory, and academics
o Decrease problem behaviors
Treatment goals are written based on the age and ability level of the child.
Goals can
include many different skill areas:
o Communication and language
o Social skills
o Self-care (such as showering and toileting)
o Play and leisure
o Motor skills
o Learning and academic skills
